Lets Wrap up the Semester

Well, today marks a two week long adventure for a couple of the psych students--Greg and I. Back, to back, to back, to back, finals and exams. Tough, yes. Thankfully we are pretty good students so this shouldn't be too hard.

To get onto the usual topics, what is going on at Holy Cross right now? Well, we are all getting ready for graduation (including yours truly). But since this is Holy Cross, we are all extremely active outside of classes. I am currently working on the Psi Beta events, and getting things ready for the new faculty member(s) for the future. The plan is to get another psychology professor, and move the program up the next level and have Psi Chi--Psi Beta's big brother.

In addition to this hopeful faculty member increase, I am currently engaging contact with the Association for Psychological Science (APS) to become the campus rep for Holy Cross College. Because it is a newly founded major we are still getting the kinks out such as who the Psi Beta president is, who the VP is, chair members, student caucus. On a side note: I must thank Dr. Verges Professor of Psychology at Indiana University, South Bend; for suggesting I take a look into the APS origination. So this next year will be full of changes, and additions to the Holy Cross Psychology experience.

On a retrospective note, the HoCro Psych-Fair Spring 2008 went off without a hitch. I'll be posting up the images from that at the end of next week when the finals for the year are finished up. Needless to say, there were some extremely impressive and highly motivated individuals this year! It was really amazing to see the number of students at the fair this year. I estimate that at least 90 students attended. We shall see if the Fall 2008 semester can out do the students from this semester. Also, I'll post up some of the better projects on here as well as the pictures from the event.

Recent events update: Psi Beta, Germany, APS

Psi Beta:
May 1, Psi Beta at Holy Cross will be hosting a movie night (Juno) open to all students to interest more students into becoming psych majors or minors. So far the program has doubled in size since first word, but more students are always a plus. This will also be an opportunity for the students to interact with the upper level psych majors and get a brief but accurate representation of what psychology at Holy Cross College really is. In addition to Psi Beta, the Theology majors will also be joining us.

Germany; International Congress of Psychology XXIX (2008):
Psychology Majors will be meeting with the Dr. Van Auken's to go over the most recent news on the trip on August 14. Needless to say, we--the psych majors--are very excited for this opportunity and experience.

APS; Convention:
I am attending the 20th annual Association for Psychological Science Convention, May 22nd-25th in Chicago. I have opened up my invitation to others, but unfortunately it seems everyone will be busy during this time. So it appears I will be the first Holy Cross student to attend APS as a psych major.
